The suitcases are packed (yes, sewing supplies, patterns and fabrics too) and I'm ready for take-off! I'm not sure how often I'll be able to update the blog while I'm away but I'll do my best to post some pictures of my skirt projects. I've been taking a pattern drafting course and my home work while I'm away will be to finish the two skirts I've designed. Very exciting!

The three coming weeks will be filled with treasure hunting at flea markets and antique shops on Öland, vintage shopping in Stockholm and Copenhagen, quality time with family and friends and lots and lots of food and good wine.

See you at the end of July!

Monroe curls

I love looking at casual photographs of Marilyn Monroe and I always admire her hairstyle. I guess I could easily turn my blonde bob in to something similar - if I wasn't so lousy at styling my own hair. Believe me I've tried! One girl who does an incredible job is Johanna Öst.

I finished my princess seam dress in a coral linen right in time for the celebration of Midsommar. The pickled herring is missing though...

The last detail will be a salmon pink belt with a covered belt buckle in the same coral linen used for the dress but in the meantime I'm wearing it with a gray leather belt tied around the waist.

And I did an invisible zipper for the first time! It really is invisible!

A lovely little package arrived yesterday with some wonderful patterns. Let's run to the fabric store!

Le weekend

An afternoon not too long ago was spent organizing my patterns. I bought acid-free sleeves for all of them and organized them according to decade and pattern type. A wave of inspiration came over me when I rediscovered patterns I almost had forgotten. One of them was this cute weekend ensemble from the late 50's:

However, it turned out to be a bit of a challenge once I took a look at the pattern pieces. Dots of various sized indicated darts, hemlines, center folds, buttonholes and so on and it took some time to solve the puzzle.

Then came the challenge to adjust the pattern to my size but after some time spent with a muslin and many needles I think it turned out pretty well.

Someone has a sailboat I can get on?

Mad about Mad Men

Part from a wonderful 3-weeks long vacation, and a few special birthdays, the thing that I'm mostly looking forward to in July is the return of Mad Men. And what would that series be without Joan Holloway?
