Another go at it

"Me Made March" was a bit of a bust on my part. Mostly due to a lingering Canadian winter that made it very difficult to wear dresses and skirts and a lack of time. But I have been given the opportunity to do try another month of "me made"!

"I, My of creativeaccomplishments , sign up as a participant of Me-Made-June '11. I endeavour to wear something hand made each day for the duration of June 2011."

Prom dress makeover

And here is the original:

So here is what I did:
I removed one shoulder which also included re-stitching the lining and putting in a shorter zipper in the back. I altered the length and used the left-over fabric for a belt (using a vintage belt kit) and a flowery thing at the shoulder.

Can't wait to wear it to Daniel in a few weeks!

It's happening

That's that. Floor length prom dress is no more. I'm taking it in a bit, changing the length to a more wearable on-the-knee length and altering the neckline quite dramatically. After-pictures will come soon!

I recently made a pair of shorts using this pattern.

I used a red twill and my own handmade seam tape. I love them and can't wait for it to get a bit warmer but I am surprised how short they are considering the pattern is from the very early 60s. Usually I end up shortening the length of the legs in vintage shorts but this time I actually wanted to add an inch.

Handmade seam tape at the hem.

By the way, my sailors stripe top blogged about here was also made using the same pattern.

Pants or lamp shades?

Just found this Before & after post on Designsponge:

This is a pair of up-cycled lamp shades by Lia Fagan posted on Designsponge using the same fabric as I did for my cigarette pants.

Pants or lampshades?

I'm alive!

While the blog has been silent I've been sewing up a storm! I also got hit by the weirdest flu-thingy but I'm back on my feet and ready to take on spring in a pair of patterned pants.

I used a self-drafted pattern I made a few months back. The pants are waist-high with a side zipper.

I'm currently working on this dress from a 1960s pattern:

More pictures to come once I finish the dress (this weekend!)
